Why did you choose to study Paramedicine?

I’ve always wanted to work in healthcare to help people. Coming from a family of nurses, social workers, youth workers, and healthcare assistants, I originally planned to study nursing. However, after learning about paramedicine, I was inspired to pursue that path instead.

How did you find the paramedicine degree?

I found the Paramedicine degree full on trying to memorise the clinical guidelines and procedures as well as keeping on top of assignments and weekly quizzes, but with the right group of friends it felt like a breeze.

How did MAPmedics help you during the paramedicine degree?

MAPmedics provided extra study sessions and created a supportive space where Māori and Pasifika students could feel comfortable. They also brought in past Māori and Pasifika graduates to assist with skills and run simulations, which boosted my confidence in patient assessment and treatment while offering valuable insights into new approaches for different scenarios.

What are your plans now that you have graduated?

My plan from here is to secure a paramedic internship and land a paramedic role, while also making time to travel and explore beyond Aotearoa New Zealand.
